Jacksonville College professor Brett Eckles was named the David DeBoe Webb Society Chapter Sponsor of the Year for 2023. Since 1999 this award, given by the Texas State Historical Association, goes to the faculty sponsor of a student history association who has supported significant student scholarship and participation in Texas history. Eckles, along with professor Patricia Richey, sponsors the Barnwell Anderson chapter of the Walter Prescott Webb Historical Society at Jacksonville College, which also won the 2023 Chapter of the Year award. An instructor at the college since 2017, Eckles is a graduate of Jacksonville College who participated in the chapter society as a student.
