Laundry facilities are available at each residence hall and are for resident use only. Laundry supplies, such as detergent and dryer sheets, are the responsbility of the individual student. Jacksonville College is not responsible for laundry that is lost, damaged, or stolen. Items left in the laundry room may be removed and placed in the lost and found, which can be accessed by contacting Residential Services Staff.
What measures are taken to enhance safety on campus?
Jacksonville College takes a proactive approach to the safety of our students:
- Exterior doors to residence halls are locked 24/7. Students should never open the door for someone or prop a door open. Always lock your room door, even when leaving the room for a short time.
- Surveillance cameras are located in strategic places around campus and in residence halls to monitor entryway and hallway activity.
- Campus is routinely patrolled by our safety team and they offer evening/night escort services.
- Campus safe hours begin at 12:00 midnight and end at 6:00 a.m. During these times, students are not allowed to be out on the campus grounds, moving from building to building, or in any residence or campus building other than their assigned residence. Loitering on campus during overnight hours is prohibited.
- For more information, please see the Campus Safety page.
Do I have to move out of the residence hall during campus breaks?
During the academic year (August to May), residents do not have to move their belongings out of their room during campus breaks, provided you are staying in the same room for the fall and spring term. Depending on the length of the campus break, there may be special instructions for residents to follow. For example, before leaving for winter break, residents should:
- Empty all food from rooms and fridges
- Unplug all appliances
- Remove any belongings from bathrooms
- Remove any valuables or expensive belongings from their room
Please note: Jacksonville College is not responsible for loss or damage to personal property.
Are visitors allowed in residence halls?
Same gender visitors/guests are allowed in residence halls from 12 noon until 12 midnight. All guests must be 18 years of age or older, must be an authorized guest, and may be required to present a picture identification. Guests must sign in at the front desk of the Norman Building and must enter the residence through the designated door. Each host is responsible for the conduct of his/her guest and the code of conduct must be followed by guests/visitors. All visitors must be accompanied by their host in the hallways. Rooms and residences must be cleared of visitors/guests at 12 a.m. There are no guests of the opposite gender allowed in the residences. On rare occasions, during circumstances which cannot be prevented, overnight guests of the same gender as the resident may be approved.
